Fircroft aims are

  • to prevent deterioration of mental health and wellbeing, thus avoiding in-patient care, in line with continued emphasis on community care;
  • to acknowledge individual strengths and needs, and develop potential;
  • to provide a range of social and leisure activities within an empowering environment to help, support and maintain people within the community;
  • to enable clients to participate fully in the planning, running and evaluation of the Fircroft Centre;

Our trained staff are able to support the wellbeing of each client through one-to-one meetings, observation and attendance. In the event of deterioration in clients’ health, our staff seek appropriate additional support from GPs, health/social workers and other carers, or, if needed, hospitalisation.

Through goal-setting and individual support all our clients have the opportunity to join in activities:

  • to help them build educational skills such as IT;
  • that help them manage their illness such as relaxation classes;
  • that help them improve their quality of life and social networks such as social clubs and outings;
  • to help with integrating into the community through supporting mainstream activities; and
  • that provide opportunities to volunteer and do work experience both in-house and in the community.

All activities are chosen by our clients and are provided as and when we are able to raise funds.

Fircroft Mental Health in the Community

  • We host the borough’s Mental Health Network Meeting, which is well attended by people who have an interest in mental health and wellbeing and organisations involved in some way with mental health and wellbeing issues. To join this group please contact: ann@thefircrofttrust.org
  • We encourage the use of our premises by other groups such as MIND in Kingston and the National Childbirth Trust. We also attend the Autism Board and host the Mental Health Parliament supported by MIND in Kingston.
  • The charity works in partnership with a range of other local organisations including Home Farm Trust, Kingston Advocacy Group, Kingston Voluntary Action, Hestia Housing, Dainton House, Kingston Mental Health Carers’ Forum, the Royal Borough of Kingston, Community Mental Health Teams, Kingston Learning Disability Team, Kingston & District Community NHS Trust, Kingston NHS.
  • We are supporting a borough-wide consultation being run by Healthwatch Kingston and the Kingston Commissioners. This is to establish how best to provide a mental health and wellbeing service.

We also run a small garden project for people experiencing social exclusion. The aim, through various horticultural activities, is to support clients to learn new skills, develop new interests and improve their quality of life. We take on small contract work in the community and sell plants in aid of Fircroft.
To contact our Head Gardener, please call 020 8339 6933.
